Concertos Competition

Open to all instrumentalists & vocalists

The Coachella Valley Symphony Concerto Competition is for highly motivated students of music from ages 11 to 22. This competition focuses on traditional Classical Concertos and Opera repertoire. Winners of this competition will be awarded a Scholarship and be featured as a soloist in concert with Maestro John Mario and the Coachella Valley Symphony.


Divisions:

A maximum of 3 applicants will be chosen to perform live with the Coachella Valley Symphony on March 17, 2019.  (All performances are subject to orchestral score availability and licensing.)



Division 2: Age 19 - 22
Scholarship Prize: $ 500

Division 1: Age 11- 18
Scholarship Prize: $ 500

RULES & REGULATIONS

2019 COACHELLA VALLEY SYMPHONY CONCERTO COMPETITION

  • This competition is open to all instrumental and voice students currently enrolled in
    Middle School, High School or College who are between the age of 11 and 22 years old.

  • All applicants must reside within a 60-mile radius of Palm Springs, CA.

  • Instrumental auditions should consist of one movement from classical concerto repertoire that has been composed and scored for orchestral accompaniment.

  • Vocal auditions should consist of one movement or an aria from opera repertoire that has been composed and scored for orchestral accompaniment.

  • All applicant’s must submit a video recording of their performance. The video recording should be uploaded to an online video sharing site such as YouTube or Vimeo (any viewable site is acceptable) and should be clearly labeled with the applicant’s name and the complete title of the piece.

  • Videos should only feature the applicant’s performance. Smart Phone video quality is accepted.

  • All repertoire must be performed by memory.

  • Live auditions will be limited to 15 minutes each.

  • Accompanists are not provided. It is the applicant’s responsibility to provide for their own accompanist. A piano will be provided for the accompanist.

  • A copy of the piano reduction score is requested for the judging panel’s reference.

  • Live auditions are closed to the general public.
