Les Surlow - Director, String Bass Player

LesLes Surlow has served on the Board for almost as long as the Board has been in existence, and has played String Bass in the CVS for nearly 16 of those years.

After 4 years of service as a Captain in WWII, Mr. Surlow owned his own sportswear company.

Mr. Surlow has always been very active in the community.  When his children were in grade school, he produced shows with them, for which the PTA gave him a Life Membership. He supervised the building of over 60 classrooms at Stephen S. Wise Temple in Los Angeles, after his retirement from business in 1981.

In 1995, he and his wife Shirley moved to the Desert, where he supervised the remodeling of the Temple Sinai complex on Hovley Lane. Les volunteers at Eisenhower Medical Center two days a week, where he recently received his 6000 hours pin!

He co-founded the Sun City Music Buffs with Amelia Gardner, and founded and serves as producer of the Sunday Concert Series.

Artistic Abilities
Prior to coming to the Desert, he played Bass in the Los Angeles Doctor's Symphony Orchestra for 38 years. He also plays Piano and Hammond Organ.  Les is a teacher of music both public and private classes.  

Mr. Surlow proudly resides in Sun City, Palm Desert.
